This is a scene my mom saw at her father's ranch.
Gloria Sherman (1925 -1996)
My mom was an artist, craftsperson and teacher who showed her work in Manhattan, Westchester and Connecticut from the '60's to the '90's. She was a wonderful person with many friends, both young and old, and her life was an example of kindness, patience and tolerance.
She grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, a contemporary of Robert Rauschenburg, who was in one of her high school art classes. She graduated with a BFA from the University of New Mexico where she was in the Art Honor Fraternity and moved to Manhattan where she studied at the Art Student's League.
She married my father, Robert M. Sherman (1915-1995), a photographer, journalist, health-food bread and candy maker and all-around handyman who made his fortune in real estate while they raised my brother, sister and I.
